The Ansel Adams Gallery National Park Photography Contest
The winners of the Ansel Adams Gallery National Park Photography Contest have been announced today. This is their inaugural photo contest, with the theme "National Park." I am very happy to learn that one of my images, An early morning in spring, was selected as the First Prize winner! This means a lot to me. I feel lucky and blessed.
You can view all the contest entries here.
Here are judges comments:
Wonderful light! And what variety of trees--very close, in between, and receding into the distant slopes.
I like the soft backlight. Interesting, subtle juxtaposition of the tree in the foreground with the trees in the background. This image has a nice color palette of blues and whites. I respond to the delicate feeling of this photograph.
Irving Penn: A Tribute
If you are around Chicago area these two weeks, it may be worth stopping by the Art Institute of Chicago to see this small exhibition, Irving Pene: A Tribute, which consists of some individual prints and many binders and boxes of correspondence by the American fashion photographer Irving Penn, who died in October this year at age of 92. The exhibition will close on December 13, 2009.

Josef Sudek and Czech Photography
Josef Sudek (1896-1976), one of my favorite photographers, is the best known photographer in Czech for his pioneering work in modern photography. His work, among others, will be on view at Minneapolis Institute of Arts today through February 2010. The exhibition of 75 photographs also include works by Frantisek Drtikol, Jaromir Funke, Eva Fuka, Jan Saudek. Not sure if they have Sudek's panoramic photographs, which I admire very much.
