7 Days in Glacier National Park
Introduction
I spent a week in July 2007 at Glacier National Park photographing and taking a break from school. This was my first time to travel alone. The most challenging part of the trip, I guess, was to drive across the Midwest and eastern Montana, where the landscape is boring and I had no one to talk to. All I had was my beloved classical music. Interestingly, on the second day I found that Rachmaninov's 3rd Symphony and his Symphonic Dances fit my mood and the surroundings quite well, along with my excitement of getting closer to Rocky Mountains.
This trip was a great opportunity for me to enjoy the nature and see a different world. Especially when being alone, I had a lot of time to think about where to go, how to see, and what to photograph. I could stay at one place for as long as I wished, or I could leave for the next destination whenever I wanted, which gave me a lot of freedom in terms of taking photos and seeking inspirations.
Although I have been shooting with a digital camera for a while, the photos in this portfolio were all on films. The films were developed at a local lab in Madison, WI, and then scanned and processed digitally in my desktop. This portfolio was not only to show my visualization of the landscape and nature in Glacier National Park, but also to express my feelings about them.

This was the first photo I took in the park. I arrived at the park in the evening on July 20th. After setting up my tent at Fish Creek Campground, I took a walk around the visitor centor at Apgar and saw this beautiful scene. It was almost sunset, and I knew I have to set up my camera quickly because the light and the color would be gone soon. There weren't many people around. It's quiet and peaceful.
